Wery Big ERROR
This happend to me 2 times already, and I'm pis*ed off about it! I was playing, as normal, and my connection crashed, this happens several times and a window where I can "send" or "don't send" an error appears every time... After some time when I try to play the game, first I have to download 5500+ files before i can even get into the game, only to discover that all of my characters have different armor which is also other color then when I was kicked out of the game! Then I have to download another 27500+ files when I click play. My net is a bit slow, so all this takes about a day, so I can't play, I'm pis*ed off!
Please someone help! Or say that this doesn't happen only to me... |

that usually only happens once, the first time you play the game, but seriously if it takes you a day to get that, then maybe you don't have a connection fast enough to even play the game, it's not recommended to play on dial up

Your first time in GW or just came back after a long break? Anyway it's normal for it to dl bunch of files before you can play but for the first time only, after that you'll be ok.
There is a way to download every files in one sitting but if your connection is slow then I'm not sure if it's worth it. What connection is it anyway? |

The game is loading the updated info. The game is 3 years old, so you have a TON of updates to add to the content. Each time you load an area (city, explorable, etc.) it has to load the info for that area. Monsters, skills used there, terrain, etc. all have to be loaded. Once this is done, it only has to be done again if it is changed in an update. So all those large amounts of file downloads only needs to be done once. Although it will take considerably longer to do it this way, it will save you headaches in the future.
1) Right click your GW icon on your desktop. 2) Select the "Properties" option. 3) Press CTRL+C 4) Click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner. 5) Select "Run". 6) Press CTRL+V 7) Place the cursor at the end of what you just pasted into the "Run" window, then press the SPACE button, and then type -image Should look like this when done: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image 8) Click the "Ok" button to run the program. 9) Leave it run for as long as it needs to - I suggest over night, while you are at work/school, etc. This will take several hours depending on your connection and computer. Once it is done, all updates and loading info will be on your computer. Now when you go to load a city, etc., it will happen much faster. |

This is more of a technicians corner thread than Q&A but It sounds like your GW.dat file is corrupting. The .dat file should be right around 4GB. MAKE sure you have room for it on your harddrive.
step 1: calm down. Browse to the GW file on your hard drive. Do you see the .dat file? If so rename it or delete it. step 2: RIGHT CLICK on your guildwars shortcut, make a new shortcut called UPDATER. Now right click on the UPDATER icon and chose properties. Next you should see TARGET and a box to the left with something like "c:\programfiles\Guildwars\GW.EXE" (*not it may not say exactly that depending on where you installed it to.) step 3: in the target box add a [space] then -image to the end of the string. EXAMPLE: "c:\programfiles\guildwars\GW.exe" -image step 4: press apply and then OK. double click the UPDATER icon and wait. This is going to take a long time to do But it will give you a clean .dat file. When I mean a long time, I mean hours to overnight depending on connection. Edit: Beat by Red |

But when his first batch of download took about a day. -image will probably kill his connection. Oh OP as for the crashed bit, post your spec as well and see if it anything to do with that.

My connection speed is 100mb/sec that's faster than dial-u... And I can't play PVP , too... I'm playing every day, so it's not because I took a long break. I don't know what to do
